Job Overview

A Chief Officer on a Chemical Tanker is responsible for managing deck operations, cargo handling, and safety procedures onboard. This position plays a key role in ensuring efficient vessel operations, compliance with international regulations, and safe transportation of chemical cargoes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Cargo Operations Management: Supervise loading, discharging, and handling of chemical cargoes in accordance with safety and operational procedures. Ensure cargo plans are properly implemented and monitored.
  • Safety & Compliance: Maintain and enforce onboard safety standards, including ISM, ISPS, and MARPOL regulations. Conduct regular safety drills and inspections.
  • Deck Operations Supervision: Oversee maintenance of deck equipment, mooring operations, and navigational readiness. Ensure all deck activities are performed efficiently and safely.
  • Crew Management & Training: Manage and supervise deck crew. Provide guidance, training, and performance evaluations to ensure professional standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare and maintain cargo records, stability calculations, and voyage reports. Ensure all documentation complies with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Emergency Response: Lead emergency procedures and coordinate responses to incidents, spills, or equipment failures.

Qualifications

  • Valid Chief Officer Certificate (STCW II/2).
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience on chemical tankers.
  • Valid medical certificate and seaman’s book.
  • Strong knowledge of chemical cargo handling and safety systems.
  • Good command of English (written and spoken).
  • Familiar with international maritime regulations.
